「FOTOZOFIO」は50歳以上のアーティストを対象にした写真・映像芸術プロジェクトです。「人類の経験と記憶」をテーマとした写真や映像のプロジェクトを招待または公募し、作品をウェブサイト上でアーカイブすることで、アーティストたちの想いを次世代に伝えることを目的としています。FOTOZOFIOのオフラインイベントである「FOTOZOFIO 2026 KYOTO」では、京都市内の2会場を拠点に、作品の展示とセミナー、ポートフォリオレビューを開催します。

1958年 岩手県陸前高田市生まれ。筑波大学芸術専門学群にて大辻清司に師事。1984年に同大学院 芸術研究科修士課程修了。以降東京を拠点に活動を行い、自然・都市・写真のかかわり合いに主眼をおいた一連の作品を制作、数々の個展・グループ展に参加。作品は国内外のパブリック・コレクションに多数収蔵されている。

「交差する視点」は、同世代であり、日本とケベックを結ぶ対話によってつながる二人の写真家、セルジュ・クレマンと甲斐扶佐義の作品を集めた展覧会です。京都、奈良、モントリオールでの滞在制作を通して生まれた彼らのイメージは、都市を〈形態・記憶・歴史〉の空間として見つめています。視覚的な観察と内面的な探求のあいだで、本展は場所、歩み、そして物語を出会わせます。
本展「交差する視点」は、FOTOZOFIO と PHOTO GASPESIE による交換プログラムを契機に実現した、セルジュ・クレマンと甲斐扶佐義の近年の作品を紹介する写真展です。これらの作品は日本とケベックを舞台に制作され、都市・記憶・歴史の結びつきを繊細に探求しています。1960〜70年代の大きな社会変動を経験した同世代に属する二人の写真家は、急速な都市化と時代の激動に育まれた共通の感性を持っています。アプローチは大きく異なるものの、その共鳴は作品にも表れています。
2025年春、京都と奈良で滞在制作を行ったモントリオール出身の写真家セルジュ・クレマンは、木造建築、反射、線、都市構造といった「形態」を通して街を観察しました。彼の写真は、人間の痕跡の重なりの中に潜むグラフィカルな調和を浮かび上がらせ、都市景観を視覚的かつ構造的に読み解くことを提示しています。一方、京都の人々のポートレートで知られる甲斐扶佐義は、ここではより私的で内省的な作品を展開しています。モントリオールに移り住んだ兄の死後、彼は2025年にカナダを訪れ、その足跡をたどりながら街を歩きました。モントリオールのシリーズでは記憶と喪失を問いかけると同時に、故郷である山香町で撮影した写真は、彼の創作の原点へと立ち返るものとなっています。
分析的な視点と内省的な視点——二つのまなざしを対峙させることで、本展は日本とケベック、都市空間と個人史、構造と物語といった複数の次元を対話させます。

セルジュ・クレマンは、問いと探究のプロセスそのものを主軸に据えた写真実践を展開してきた写真家である。その作品は詩的であると同時に撹乱的な像の生成を特徴とし、ドキュメンタリー、社会的言説、写真エッセイ、さらにはインスタレーションへと横断的に展開される複合的実践として位置づけられる。
彼の作品は、展示空間におけるシークエンスの構成的提示を重視する点に大きな特徴がある。それと同等に写真集というメディウムにも理論的・造形的関心を寄せてきた。写真集は単なる成果物ではなく、空間的思考の延長としての提示装置、すなわちもう一つの展示形式として捉えられている。
2000年代初頭以降は映像領域へと実践を拡張し、短編映画の制作に取り組むとともに、写真と映画の相互関係を主題とする実験的インスタレーションを展開してきた。2018年には、現代美術の実験的実践を紹介するOccurrence が、写真集制作の軌跡を総覧する回顧展「Serge Clément / Archipel」を開催。近年、デガニェスとの長期的協働の成果として刊行された『Métamorphose』（2025）は、詩、ドローイング、写真を交差させた「書物彫刻」として構想されている。個展は2025年に日本（京都FOTOZOFIO、奈良MOMENT Contemporary Art Center）で開催されたほか、ケベック州およびフランスでも発表されている。現在、モントリオールのGalerie Simon Blais、およびフランス・リヨンのLe Réverbère に所属。
甲斐扶佐義は1949年、大分県大分市に生まれる。11歳より写真制作を開始。1972年、京都に喫茶「ほんやら洞」を開店。同所は以後、写真・文学・演劇・音楽など多領域の表現者が交差する文化的拠点として機能し、甲斐の活動基盤の一つとなった。
1977年、写真集『京都出町』を刊行。翌1978年には米国にて写真展を開催する。以降数年間、鴨川河畔において被写体となった人々に作品を無償で配布するという形式の大規模な野外写真展を約20回にわたり実施し、都市空間における写真の社会的循環と関係性の生成を実践的に提示した。1990年代からは、『京都新聞』紙上にてフォト＆エッセイを連載し、写真と言語の往還による表現領域を拡張した。
2001年以降は欧米各地に招聘され、継続的に個展を開催。これまでに刊行した写真集は40冊を超える。2015年には「ほんやら洞」の全焼により、モノクロフィルム・ネガ約200万コマを焼失するという重大な被害を受けたが、その出来事自体もまた作家の時間意識と記憶の問題系を浮上させる契機となった。主な受賞歴として、2009年京都美術文化賞、2023年京都府文化賞功労賞を受賞。

FOTOZOFIO is an online photography and video art project for artists aged 50 and over. We invite and openly call for photographic and video projects on the theme of 'human experience and memory', and archive the works on our website, to pass on the artists' thoughts to the next generation. This year's FOTOZOFIO 2026 KYOTO, the FOTOZOFIO's offline event, will feature exhibitions and seminars at two venues in Kyoto.

Born in 1958 in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture. He studied under Kiyoji Otsuji at the School of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba. In 1984, he completed his master's degree in art and design at the same university. Since then, based in Tokyo, he has produced a series of works focusing on the relationship between nature, the city, and photography, and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His works are included in many public collections both in Japan and abroad.

"Regards croisés" (Intersecting Gazes) brings together Serge Clément and Kai Fusayoshi, two photographers linked by their generation and a shared dialogue between Japan and Quebec. Born from residencies in Kyoto, Nara, and Montreal, their images explore the city as a space of form, memory, and history. Moving between graphic observation and intimate quest, the exhibition creates a meeting point for places, journeys, and narratives.
The exhibition originated from an exchange program between FOTOZOFIO and PHOTO GASPÉSIE. It features recent works by Clément and Kai, produced between Japan and Quebec, subtly exploring the links between the urban environment, memory, and history. Belonging to a generation marked by the profound social transformations of the 1960s and 70s, both photographers share a common sensitivity shaped by rapid urbanization and the upheavals of their era. This resonance is felt throughout their work, even as their creative approaches differ deeply.
During his residency in Kyoto and Nara in the spring of 2025, Montreal photographer Serge Clément focused on observing the city through its forms: wooden architecture, reflections, lines, and urban networks. His images reveal a hidden graphic harmony within the accumulation of human traces, offering a structured, visual reading of the urban landscape. Conversely, Kai Fusayoshi, renowned for his portraits of Kyoto’s inhabitants, presents a more intimate body of work tied to his personal history. Following the loss of his brother, who had moved to Montreal, Kai traveled to Canada in 2025 to retrace his steps. His Montreal series interrogates memory and absence, while his photographs of Yamaga, his hometown, return to the very origins of his artistic practice.
By confronting these two perspectives—one analytical, the other introspective—the exhibition fosters a dialogue across multiple dimensions: Japan and Quebec, urban space and personal history, structure and narrative.

Serge Clément develops a photography of inquiry and research, driven by images that are simultaneously poetic and unsettling. His practice spans various formats—from documentary to installation, and from social commentary to photographic essays. Central to his work is the formal arrangement and composition of sequences within the exhibition space. He also maintains a theoretical and plastic reflection on the photobook, viewing it not as a mere end product, but as a presentation device that extends spatial thinking—an alternative form of exhibition. Since the early 2000s, he has expanded his practice into moving images, creating short films and experimental installations that question the relationship between photography and cinema. In 2018, Occurrence dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him titled Serge Clément / Archipel. More recently, he published Métamorphose (2025) with Alexis Desgagnés, a "sculpture-book" combining poetry, drawings, and photographs. His solo exhibitions have been presented in Japan (FOTOZOFIO, Kyoto; MOMENT Contemporary Art Center, Nara), Quebec, and France. He is represented by Galerie Simon Blais in Montreal and Le Réverbère in Lyon.
Born in 1949 in Ōita, Japan, Kai Fusayoshi began photography at the age of eleven. In 1972, he opened the café Honyarado in Kyoto, which quickly became a major cultural hub for photographers, writers, and musicians, serving as a foundational anchor for his practice. In 1977, he published Kyoto Demachi, followed by his first U.S. exhibition the next year. Over the following decades, he organized numerous open-air exhibitions along the Kamo River, giving away prints for free to those he photographed—a gesture that questions the circulation of the image and the relationship between photographer, subject, and urban space. Since the 1990s, he has developed a practice blending photography and writing, notably through a column in the Kyoto Shimbun. Since 2001, he has regularly held solo exhibitions in Europe and North America and has published over forty books. In 2015, the Honyarado fire destroyed approximately two million black-and-white negatives—a staggering loss that has left a lasting mark on his work and his relationship to memory. He has received several honors, including the Kyoto Art Culture Prize (2009) and the Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Merit Award (2023).
